Equestrian Team to Host Auburn on Senior Day

MANHATTAN, Kan. The Kansas State equestrian team will host its last show of the season on Friday against the Tigers of Auburn University. The Tigers are ranked No. 6 nationally in the latest Varsity Equestrian National Coaches Poll, while the Wildcats sit in at No. 9. The show is set to begin at 9 a.m. K-State is looking to get another win under its belt before heading into the Big 12 Championships on March 27 and 28 in Stillwater, Okla.

The Kansas State senior riders will pace the Wildcats Friday on Senior Day. The seniors will look to pick up their last wins in collegiate regular season competition, along with the underclassmen as well. Leading the way in Hunter Seat competition, both on the flat and over fences, will be Whitney Snyder, who improved her record last weekend to 16-5-1 with 4 MVP honors after two wins against South Dakota State.

Accompanying Snyder on the flat will be seniors Jenny Giraldin, Katie Mellon, and Leslie Yates, and freshman Stephanie Patterson. Over fences, a younger group of riders will join Snyder. Sophomore Jen Rawle, juniors Bridget Doyle and Kendall Marvin, and senior Leslie Yates will show for the Wildcats.

"We plan to keep the consistency this week as we compete against Auburn," said Ashley Foster, Hunter Seat head coach. "Auburn is a very strong team so it will be great to compete against them before we go to our Big 12 Championships. This Friday will also be senior day. It is exciting that we will have a lot of seniors able to compete since this will be their last home competition. The riders have been working hard in an effort to be comfortable and confident when they walk into the ring against Auburn."

In Western competition, Kansas State will be led by seniors Alyssa Freeman, who holds a 9-3 overall record and one MVP award, and Jana Lechtenberg, who is 7-5 overall in horsemanship competition. They will ride along side juniors Laura Browne, Courtney Watters, and Mikaela Sundgren.

Junior Morgan Campbell and sophomore Alecia Zimbelman will share the reins as they are both 7-4-1 in reining competition for the Wildcats. Zimbelman owns 3 MVP honors on the season, while Campbell has one. Along with Campbell and Zimbelman, juniors Dani Pettera and Kaylee Stout, and senior Freeman will look to pick up victories for K-State as well.

Half of Kansas State's exhibition riders will be comprised of seniors. Seniors Christine Fosnacht and Hannah Schroller will guide the Wildcats over fences, along with juniors Allie Archer and Kayla Potter. On the flat, three seniors will lead the way for K-State, including Dresden Sommer, Erin Paulsen, and Paige Kovari, as well as junior Celia Gaches.

The Western side will comprise of one senior, Alden Haugh. She will be showing for the first time in regular season competition against the Tigers. Alongside Haugh will be juniors Josie Kness and Kyla Copple, and sophomore Sierra Fredrick.
