Dysart Eyes IHSA National Championships

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State’s Valerie Dysart is one step away from IHSA National Championship competition as the senior will look to advance to this year’s championships on Saturday at the 2009 IHSA Semifinals in Morehead, Ky.

Dysart, who is competing in the Intermediate Horsemanship category, initially qualified for regional competition back on February 28 with two wins at K-State’s IHSA Western show and then followed that performance with a second-place finish in Intermediate Horsemanship at the regional show in Springfield, Mo., to qualify for this weekend’s semifinal competition.

“Valerie has worked very hard over the past few years, and especially this year, to meet her goal of riding at the IHSA National Championship,” said Western head coach Casie Williamson. “The Semifinal show this weekend is just one step away from Nationals, and we have high hopes to make it that far. Valerie has proven to be a very talented rider and really stands out against the other riders in her division, so I expect to be making a trip to the National Championship with her next month.”

A native of Netawaka, Kan., Dysart took first place last season in Intermediate Horsemanship at the regional competition and will look to build on that performance this season with the hopes of advancing to national competition.

The top four riders in each category this weekend will advance to nationals. The 2009 IHSA National Championships will be held on April 23-26 at Miller Coliseum in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
