Dysart Wins IHSA Semifinal

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State’s Valerie Dysart qualified for the 2009 IHSA National Championships on Saturday after taking top honors in Intermediate Horsemanship at the IHSA Semifinal competition in Morehead, Ky.

Dysart, a senior from Netawaka, Kan., placed first among 14 riders on Saturday in her class to advance to the IHSA National Championship, a goal that she has worked towards for the past year.

"I had a great ride today,” said Dysart. “I rode with confidence and was mentally prepared for this show. I drew a really good horse and felt like I could show off in the arena. It is such a relief to know that all of the hard work and hours of practicing has paid off for me, and now I can't wait to go to nationals."

"Valerie rode exceptionally well today and just stood out against the other riders in her class,” added Western head coach Casie Williamson. “I am so proud of how confident she is and what good feel she has developed for her horse every time she steps into the arena. I am extremely excited to take her on to the national championship next month."

The 2009 IHSA National Championships will be held on April 23-26 at Miller Coliseum in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
