Wildcats Drop Matchup with No. 3 Aggies

WACO, Texas – Despite keeping pace early on with No. 3 Texas A&M, the seventh-ranked Kansas State equestrian squad was overtaken late by the Aggies, dropping a 10-6 decision in the first round of the Big 12 Championships Friday afternoon.

K-State (5-8) started the day off strong in the Hunter Seat competition, riding Texas A&M (11-4) to a 2-2 draw in Equitation on the Flat. Junior Natasha Vincent started things off by defeating A&M’s Kristen Bell, 141-136, for her fourth win on the season. Sophomore Stephanie Patterson picked up the other Wildcat point with her 153-123 victory over Brittney Dodsen.

The Wildcats were also able to ride to a 2-2 draw in Equitation Over Fences. Freshman Kristen Rheinlander took the first point for K-State, defeating Lindsay Smith, 147-143. The win marked the third victory for Rheinlander during her freshman campaign, with all three wins coming in the spring season. Senior team captain Kendall Marvin picked up the remaining K-State point, defeating Maggie Earle, 152-138.

The Aggies were able to take control in the Western portion of the show, winning both disciplines by the score of 3-1. In Horsemanship, senior team captain Alyssa Freeman notched her eighth victory of the season, riding past Randi Standley for a 151-144 win.
