MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State equestrian team will head to College Station, Texas to compete in the Big 12 Championships this Friday and Saturday at the Brazos County Expo Center. The tournament features four of the nation's best squads in No. 1 Texas A&M, No. 4 Oklahoma State, fifth-ranked Baylor and seventh-ranked K-State.

Beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, the Wildcats (5-8) will face the top-seeded Texas A&M Aggies (10-1). On the other side of the bracket, second-seeded Oklahoma State (7-5) will take on third-seeded Baylor (9-6). On Saturday, the winners of those matches will face off for the championship, while the remaining teams will battle for third place.

K-State head coach Casie Lisabeth is eager to see how her team, especially the underclassmen will perform against top-flight competition on the biggest stage of the season.

"The Big 12 Championships is a great step into the National Championship," said Lisabeth. "We know this event will be a huge challenge and hope to continue building on the success we have experienced this spring. Our young team has grown a lot in and out of the arena and we feel like we are entering the postseason in great condition mentally and physically."

As the Wildcats look to improve on their fourth-place finish at last season's Big 12 Championships, junior Stephanie Patterson, who is the only returning rider to notch a victory at the 2010 championship, will lead K-State into action.

Patterson will try to add to her English team-best three match-MVP awards. Leading the Western side for the Wildcats will be freshman Kelly Bovaird. The Tulsa, Okla., native will try to add to her team-high nine wins as she rides into the postseason.

Recaps for both Friday and Saturday's competitions will be available on kstatesports.com as they are made available.
