K-State's Yates Named Rider of the Month

IRVING, Texas- Kansas State equestrian rider Kali Yates was honored by the Big 12 on Wednesday, after she was named co-Equitation Over Fences Rider of the Month. This is the fourth time a K-State rider has garnered this honor this season.

Head coach Casie Maxwell was happy for her senior rider to earn this recognition.

“We are very proud of Kali for her achievements this month,” said Maxwell. “She has been an instrumental part in the success of our program and deserves credit for her excellent performances. We are looking forward to seeing her finish strong for her senior season.”

Yates, a senior from Bonner Springs, Kan., has been an instrumental part of the Wildcats’ strong season. The Equitation Over Fences specialist went 4-2 in the month, while helping K-State to a second place finish at the Big 12 Championship.

Other riders to earn this month’s honor from the Big 12 include Katy Krshka (Oklahoma State), who earned honors in both Reining and Horsemanship, Samantha Schaefer (Baylor) in Equitation Over Fences, and Samantha Harrison (Oklahoma State) and Kaitlin Perry (TCU) in Equitation on the Flat.

The Wildcats are preparing for the NCEA Championship, which takes place April 18-20 in Waco, Texas.
