Wildcats Celebrate with Year-End Banquet


MANHATTAN, Kan. - After finishing the season with a 9-9 record, the Kansas State equestrian team celebrated a strong season with its annual team banquet.

The banquet is an opportunity for the team to reflect on the past season and to honor those who excelled during the year. The team recognized ten different awards and reminisced on the 2014-15 season.

Conditioning Awards
Most Improved Athlete of the Year - Sydney Anson
Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year - Madison Wayda

K-State Team Honor Roll
The Honor Roll was initiated last season to recognize athletes who exceed expectations in the classroom. Athletes must earn a minimum 3.5 semester grade point average to qualify for this award. For the Fall 2014 semester, K-State named seven athletes to the Team Honor Roll.

Henley Adkins, Karsen Brown, Katie DeLano, Nicholle Hatton, Natalie Kestle, Katie Ramsey and Madison Wayda.

Letter Award Winners
In order to letter, student athletes must compete in at least seven competitions and win at least 50% of their matches. Additionally they must be in good academic standing with the University and coaching staff, as well as being eligible to compete.

Workhorse of the Year
This award is given to individuals who have put in countless hours in and out of the saddle. These athletes are always looking for ways to become stronger in the practice pen, the competition arena, and as teammates.

Thisis awarded to the student athlete who shows endless dedication to K-State and the Equestrian program.

The Unsung Hero Award
This is awarded to the student athlete who is selected by their fellow teammates and is given to individuals who are behind the scenes teammates who may not get enough credit for all that they do.

Most Outstanding Award
Recognizes one Hunter Seat and one Western rider per class. These riders have shown leadership to their teammates throughout the year. Their hard work and efforts are reflective in their performances throughout the season.

Captains for the 2015-16 Season
With next year being the last active season as a program, the K-State equestrian team have decided to not have traditional captains for the 2015-16 season. Instead, the team will focus on everyone contributing to the team and stepping up into a leadership role. Additionally, the coaches will acknowledge exceptional leadership and hard work through different means of recognition next season.
