MANHATTAN, Kan.- Kansas State equestrian rider Kelly Bovaird was one of eight riders selected to compete in the 2013 American Quarter Horse Association Horsemanship (AQHA) Challenge. The event is part of the AQHA Amateur World Show in Oklahoma City, Okla. The Horsemanship challenge will take place Nov. 20-21. Bovaird was an alternate for the event last season.

"I am extremely proud of Kelly for making the AQHA Collegiate Horsemanship Challenge," said head coach Casie Maxwell. "She was an alternate last year and worked extremely hard to move herself up that list and get to compete in Oklahoma City. She will be a great representative for our team at this event."

Bovaird, the rising senior from Tulsa, Okla., was an important part of K-State's Western Reserve National Championship. She compiled an impressive 11-5-2 record with four Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) honors. Bovaird has a career Horsemanship record of 37-13-2 while racking up eight MOP honors. The senior to be has been a great postseason rider for the Wildcats, holding an overall record of 11-4 in Big 12 Championship and National Championship competitions.

K-State is coming off a season which saw its Western team take home their third Reserve National Championship in four years.
