MANHATTAN, Kan. - In an announcement by the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) on Friday, Kansas State equestrian rider Cat Avolese was named September Rider of the Month in Equitation on the Flat.

"I am extremely proud of Cat for earning NCEA September Rider of the Month in Equitation on the Flat," said head coach Casie Maxwell. "This is her first year competing in the Flat event and she has seen great success every time she steps into the arena. We look forward to watching her continue to develop as a Flat rider and help push our team towards winning a National Championship."

The senior from St. James, N.Y., went 3-1 in the month of September, with two of the wins coming against NCEA teams.

Avolese picked up her first two wins of the season on Sept. 21. In her head-to-head matchup against Taylor Myers of Miami (OH), she knocked off her counterpart, 81-68, and earned Most Outstanding Player (MOP) honors in Equitation on the Flat. Later that day, she defeated Caroline Schock of Delaware State in Equitation Over Fences. Her third win of the month came against Big 12 rival Oklahoma State. She routed OSU rider Leighona Bernstein, 82-0, in Equitation on the Flat.

Avolese and the Wildcats begin a four-meet road trip starting on Oct.18, when the team travels to Waco, Texas for a conference showdown with No. 7 Baylor.
