Wildcats to Face Baylor in Home Debut

MANHATTAN, Kan. The Kansas State equestrian team will kick off its 2006-07 home schedule this Friday at 12 p.m. as it battles the Baylor Bears at Fox Creek Stables.

The head-to-head English and Western match-up will be the second time these two teams have faced one another this season. Baylor defeated K-State 8-7 at the Bulldog Invitational back on September 24th.

“It’s a big weekend for us,” head coach Teresa Slough said. “We have the home show Friday and we go to Oklahoma State on Sunday. It’s the first show for a lot of our riders and we are excited to see them ride.”

The head-to-head match-up will feature 37 K-State riders in both English and Western styles. Many new riders will make their debut including seven freshmen. Bridget Doyle, Jessica Hensley, Paige Sullivan and Rhiannon Truax will join the English team, while Kyla Copple, Danielle Petra and Mikaela Sundgren will make their debuts with the Western Squad.

“Obviously we want our riders to ride well this weekend, but our main concern is how they handle the horse. If they can handle that part of the ride, then I think we should have good results,” said Slough.

The K-State and Baylor riders will compete in Western Horsemanship and JV Horsemanship inside the Indoor Arena. Outdoors, riders will compete in Equitation Over Fences, JV Equitation Over Fences, Equitation on the Flat, JV Equitation on the Flat, Reining and JV Reining.

After Friday’s show, the Cats’ will travel to Stillwater, Okla., for a Sunday show against the Oklahoma State Cowgirls.

Results from the weekend’s show will be available online at kstatesports.com as they become available.
