K-State to Host IHSA Hunt Seat Shows Saturday

MANHATTAN, Kan. The Kansas State equestrian team will square off in an IHSA competition for the first time this season on Saturday as it takes on 11 different teams in two IHSA Hunt Seat shows at Fox Creek Stables. Competition will begin Saturday at 8:00 a.m.

The Wildcats will send 35 riders to compete this weekend against riders from 11 other schools, which include Augustana College, Illinois State, Iowa State, Illinois Wesleyan, Missouri State, Northwest Missouri State, Southern Illinois at Carbondale, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Truman State and Washington University in St. Louis.

“This weekend we want to get some much needed experience for our new riders,” head coach Teresa Slough said. “We are more worried about individual riders this weekend than winning the team competition because we haven’t competed in an IHSA show for a while. It should be a real building weekend to gain valuable experience for the rest of the season.”

K-State last competed in an IHSA show at nationals last May 4-7 in Harrisburg, Pa, as the Wildcats placed second in Western and 10th in Hunt Seat.

Kansas State is also looking to capitalize on its first win of the season as it has lost head-to-head matches to Georgia, Baylor and Oklahoma State this season in Varsity competition.

Results from the weekend’s show will be available online at kstatesports.com as they become available.
