Aggies Hand Wildcats First Loss of the Season, 12-8

MANHATTAN, Kan. The Kansas State equestrian team lost its first head-to-head varsity match of the season Friday as Texas A&M remained undefeated following a 12-8 win at Fox Creek Farm.

 

Although K-State dropped the overall win-loss battle, 12-8, they still out rode Texas A&M in the raw score category, 1467.5-1425.5

 

“I’m not worried about today being our first loss,” Western head coach Casie Lisabeth said. “We rode hard and we had no major mistakes. Everyone rode pretty clean and we need to work on our technique and some maneuvers before next week.”

 

The Wildcats took an early lead in this week’s English competition with a 3-2 win in Equitation over Fences, but Texas A&M fought back and won each of the last three classes including Equitation on the Flat, 4-1, Horsemanship, 3-2, and Reining, 3-2.

 

Senior Whitney Snyder took home the only MVP award for the Wildcats in Equitation over Fences with her 82-55 win over Katie Henion.

 

Junior Jenny Giraldin picked up a win in Equitation on the Flat, 70-67, to improve to 3-1 on the season. Sophomore Paige Sullivan picked up her first win of the season in Equitation over Fences with a score of 74.

 

Sophomore Morgan Campbell had a stellar ride and picked up her third win of the season in Reining with a score of 72.5, and Junior Allysa Freeman provided K-State with a spark as she also won her match in Reining, 69-60.5.

 

Friday’s competition also featured four J.V. classes. Texas A&M defeated K-State, 3-1, in J.V. Equitation over Fences and both teams tied in J.V. Equitation on the Flat, 2-2.

 

In Western, K-State won the match in J.V. Horsemanship with a, 3-1 victory. In J.V. Reining, Texas A&M took home the win with a , 2-0 victory.

 

The Wildcats next action takes place Friday Nov. 16 at Tennessee-Martin and Saturday Nov. 17 at Auburn for two head-to-head varsity matches.
