No. 2 Wildcats Head South for Big 12 Matchup

MANHATTAN, Kan. - After a big win against No. 8 Oklahoma State last weekend, No. 2 Kansas State will head south for their first road meets of the season as they face off against Big 12 competitors, No. 5 TCU on Friday and No. 1 Baylor on Saturday both starting at 10 a.m.

"We are definitely ready to get out on the road and compete away from home," said head coach Casie Maxwell. "We have built a lot of confidence and had time to work on our weak parts. This weekend will be a great test for our team both mentally and physically."

The Hunt Seat team will be led by senior captain Madison Wayda and sophomore Henley Adkins. Wayda, who is 8-2 this season, will try and pick up four more wins on the road this weekend.

Adkins, who will compete in both Equitation over Fences and Equitation on the Flat this weekend, is 6-4 this season and 22-20-1 in her career as a Wildcat and will try and earn her 10th career Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) Award.

Sophomore Taylor Schmidt, Alexis Graves and Christina Martinelli will join Adkins and Wayda in both disciplines. Freshman Halle Kutsche will be making an appearance in Equitation over Fences and sophomore Gretchen Koenen will compete in Equitation on the Flat, each have made a major impact on the overall performance for the Wildcats this season.

Senior captain Savannah Smith and junior captain Danielle Kemper have led a diverse Western team to an undefeated season, outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 26-10 in Horsemanship and Reining.

Kemper's leadership has been tremendous so far this season - she will be supported by one lone senior, Kelsey Sousa, who is 2-3i n her career as a Wildcat. The rest of the Horsemanship team will consist of four underclassmen consisting of sophomores Sydney Anson and Alyssa Lombardi as well as freshmen Kirsten Chamberland and Paige Kemper, who will be making her first appearance competing for K-State.

In Reining, K-State will look to Smith to lead the squad. Smith will try and pick up her fourth victory of the season and her second MOP of the season. The Reining team this weekend will feature juniors Kara Guy and Nicholle Hatton will look to contribute positive results to the lineup this week. Freshmen Brynn Critcher and Heidi Schmitz will look to help fellow classman Jessica Johns in her first collegiate ride this weekend.
