Equestrian Hosts Weekend Show

MANHATTAN, Kan. The Kansas State equestrian team will finish off the fall season Saturday as it squares off against the Oklahoma State Cowgirls and New Mexico State Aggies at Fox Creek Stables.

The weekend’s events will kick off with an intra-squad scrimmage Friday at 1 p.m. and two Ancillary classes at 4 p.m., while competition for the Varsity show will begin Saturday at 9 a.m.

“We are excited about the scrimmage,” head coach Teresa Slough said. “It will give a few of our riders some valuable experience this early in the season. The Ancillary classes will also give us some valuable experience as we will be facing some really good competition.”

The Wildcats will send 28 riders to compete in this weekend’s Varsity show. The English riders will compete in Equitation over Fences and Equitation on the Flat, while the Western riders will compete in Horsemanship and Reining.

K-State last competed against Oklahoma State on October 15 as the two teams tied, with the Cowgirls coming out ahead by taking the tie breaker, 1720-1698.5. The Wildcats dropped the last competition against New Mexico State 820.5-824.5 last season at the Varsity Equestrian National Championships on April 22.

“The last time we faced OSU, we ended in a tie. We are ready to compete with them at home, this time hoping for a different result,” Slough said.

Results from the weekend’s show will be available online at kstatesports.com as they become available.
