Equestrian To Close Out 2010 in Texas

K-State Sophomore Hannah Ribera

Nov. 16, 2010

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State equestrian team will hit the road as it looks to close out its 2010 fall schedule with duals against nationally-ranked opponents, Baylor and Texas A&M.  According to the Equestrian Coaches Poll that was released today, K-State checks in at No. 6 nationally, moving up one spot from the previous poll.

K-State (4-3) is coming off its lone home loss of the season, in which they fell to nationally-ranked Oklahoma State. The Cowgirls broke K-State's three-match win streak by knocking off the Cats, 12-7, on November 5 at Timbercreek Stables.

Kansas State has yet to face first-ranked and undefeated Texas A&M this season but the Wildcats have battled with eighth-ranked Baylor so far in 2010. On October 15, K-State clipped the Bears on a raw-point tiebreaker, 1366-1359.5 to pick up its fourth win of the season.

Starting at 1 p.m. on Friday, K-State will face Baylor (4-4) at the Willis Family Equestrian Center in Waco.

The Wildcats finished a banner year at this facility last season, as the Western squad took home Reserve National Champion honors from the Varsity Equestrian National Championships.

After competing in Waco, the Cats will head to Aggieland on Saturday, where they will take on the nation's top-ranked squad, Texas A&M (5-0) in College Station. Starting at 10 a.m., the Cats will look to knock off a talented and experienced A&M squad.

The Wildcats rode well against A&M last season, but dropped both duals to the Aggies in 2009-10.

In Hunter Seat action, Kansas State will be led by sophomore Larissa Laffey and junior Stephanie Patterson. Both riders have two match-MVP awards under their belts and have been consistently successful this season, with Laffey's record at 7-3 and Patterson's record at 5-1-1.

On the Western side, sophomore Hannah Ribera will look to continue her early-season success against two more high-quality opponents. The Canyon, Texas native is currently 4-2 on the year.

This weekend's match-ups will mark the last competitions of 2010 for Kansas State, as the Wildcats will take a two-month break before hopping back in the saddle to take on Oklahoma State in their first dual of 2011. K-State will travel to Stillwater, Okla. on January 29 to kick off the spring portion of its schedule.
