Equestrian Drops Final Show of the Season, 12-6

AUBURN, Ala. The Kansas State equestrian team dropped its second head-to-head varsity match of the season Saturday as Auburn took home a 12-6 win in the final show of the fall season for the Wildcats.

Kansas State has now brought its overall record to 4-2 on the season. Junior Alyssa Freeman took home the only MVP award for K-State in Horsemanship with her score of 74.5-71.5.

“This was a great opportunity for everyone to figure out what we need to focus on for next semester,” Western head coach Casie Williamson said. “Alyssa Freeman rode her heart out today and produced two really stellar performances."

The Wildcats took an early lead in Saturday’s show with a 3-1 win in Horsemanship, but Auburn fought back to win each of the final three classes including Reining, 3-1, Equitation over Fences, 4-1, and Equitation on the Flat, 4-1.

"Today was a tough loss for the Hunter Seat squad,” English head coach Ashley Foster said. “However, we learned a lot today and we'll go home and keep working hard to improve. Although we lost, we had two very strong performances from Whitney Snyder. With every show, she shows more maturity and her riding becomes more effective."

Snyder took home wins in both Equitation on the Flat, 70-69, and Equitation over Fences, 81-70, to bring her overall record to 10-2 on the season.

Sophomore Dani Pettera picked up a win in Reining, 67.5-0, to improve to 4-2 on the season.

Saturday’s competition also featured three exhibition rides including Mikaela Sundgren, who won her match, 72-70, in Horsemanship. In Equitation over Fences, freshman Julie Wolfert dropped her match, 71-50, and junior Katie Mellon also dropped her match, 68-53.

"The girls really stepped up today and made aggressive, confident rides,” Williamson said. “The horsemanship riders rode at the top of their game today. They have worked really hard to perfect their equitation and it was great that they finally got rewarded for it. On the Reining side we had a few mental mistakes that we will go home and work on.”
