K-State Will Look to Pick Up First Road Victories

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The No. 4 Kansas State equestrian team will look to end a two meet skid, as they travel to Fresno, California this weekend. K-State will face No. 6 Auburn at 10 a.m., on Friday and Fresno State on Saturday at 9 a.m.

"We are looking forward to getting back on the road after our first experience on the road last weekend," said head coach Casie Maxwell. "We are ready to finish the fall semester strong and end on a high note we started on."

The last time K-State matched up with Fresno State was in the 2012-13 season where the Wildcats defeated Fresno State in California by a 12-4 decision.

Last season, Kansas State fell to Auburn, 13-3, in the second round of the NCEA National Championship.

The Hunt Seat team will be led by senior captain Madison Wayda and sophomore Henley Adkins. Adkins, who will compete in both Equitation over Fences and Equitation on the Flat this weekend, is 7-7 this season and 23-23-1 in her career as a Wildcat and will try and earn her 10th career Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) Award.

Sophomore Taylor Schmidt, Alexis Graves and Christina Martinelli will join Adkins and Wayda in both disciplines. Schmidt has made quite the impact as the fall season has progressed claiming a 11-2-1 season record.

Freshman Halle Kutsche will be making an appearance in Equitation over Fences and sophomore Gretchen Koenen will compete in Equitation on the Flat. Each have gained tremendous experience and competitiveness throughout the course of the season.

Junior captain Danielle Kemper's leadership has elevated the young Horsemanship team.  Alongside Kemper, fellow upperclassman Kelsey Sousa, a senior who is 3-3 in her career as a Wildcat.  Following the two to Fresno will be four underclassmen - sophomores Sydney Anson and Alyssa Lombardi as well as freshmen Kirsten Chamberland and Paige Kemper.

In Reining, K-State will look to senior captain Savannah Smith and junior Nicholle Hatton to rally the Wildcats in this discipline. Smith and Hatton have picked up seven points for the Reining team this season. Alongside the two will be junior Kara Guy, freshmen Brynn Critcher, Heidi Schmitz and Jessica Johns who went 0-1 last weekend.
