Larissa Laffey

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State equestrian student-athlete Larissa Laffey was named Big 12 Rider of the Month for her performance in Equitation on the Flat for the month of November, in an announcement by the Big 12 office. This marks the second month in a row that a rider from K-State has received Rider of the Month honors from the Big 12 as junior Meredith Finch garnered the same award in October.

A junior from Byfield, Mass., Laffey tallied a match-MVP award and a record of 3-0, with two of those wins coming over fellow November Riders of the Month. Laffey picked up a win and match-MVP honors over Maggie Earle of Texas A&M on November 11. She followed that performance up by knocking off Oklahoma State riders Allison Dooman and Jordan White, in Flat and Fences action, respectively, on November 19, as she lead the Wildcats to a 12-10 victory over the Cowgirls, who were ranked fourth nationally at the time. Laffey was only one of three Wildcat riders to go undefeated during November.

"We are very proud of Larissa Laffey for being recognized as the November Big 12 Equitation on the Flat Rider of the Month,” said K-State head coach Casie Lisabeth. “She has had an outstanding season thus far and has really stepped up as key performer in the Flat arena. Now a junior, we have continued to raise the bar for Larissa both in the arena and the classroom, both areas in which she continues to succeed."

Also receiving Rider of the Month honors were Earle of Texas A&M and White of Oklahoma State (Equitation Over Fences), Oklahoma State’s Katy Krshka (Reining) and Texas A&M rider Carey Nowacek (Horsemanship). The Big 12 will name Riders of the Month in each event for the months of February and March.

The fourth-ranked K-State equestrian team will take a six-week break before kicking off the 2012 spring season as it will travel to Martin, Tenn., to take on the Skyhawks of Tenn.-Martin on January 27 and New Mexico State on January 28.
