WESTON HILLS, Fla. - Paige Osterloo, of the Kansas State women's golf team, opened up the spring season with a 3-over par 75 in the first round of the Sir Pizza Cards Challenge held at Weston Hills Country Club Sunday. The Wildcats sit in 14th with a score of 35-over par 323.

The 6,211-yard par 72 course was host to former PGA Tour Classic Tournaments and proved its toughness to the field. Coach Kristi Knight was proud of the performance that Osterloo put together to be in a tie for 12th among individuals.

"It is good to get started for the spring," said Knight. "I know the ladies were eager to get back competing. They have done a nice job at practice in all kinds of conditions preparing for the spring season. Today was not the start we would have liked. This is a tough course and we will need to be sharper physically and mentally tomorrow. We have two rounds of golf left, so we can certainly improve our position and I believe the ladies will do that."

Miami leads the team competition after round one with a score of 15-over par 303. North Carolina State and Florida International follow closely behind in second with a score of 17-over par 305.

Four individuals are tied for first with opening round scores of 2-under par 70.

K-State's Emily Houtz is in a tie for 53rd after a 9-over par 81 in the first round.

Tied for 59th is Gianna Misenhelter, who carded an 11-over par 83. Misenhelter recorded a 44 on the front nine followed by a 39 on the back nine.

Hanna Roos notched a 13-over par 85 to sit in a tie for 69th and Laura Hildebrandt is in 78th after a 19-over par 91.

K-State's second round will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. (CT). Results will be posted as soon as they become available at www.kstatesports.com.
