K-State Moves Up to Finish Fourth at Westbrook

PEORIA, Ariz.— The Kansas State women’s golf team moved up two spots on the leaderboard to finish fourth during the third round of the Westbrook Spring Invitational on Monday at the par 72, 6,178-yard Westbrook Village Golf Club.

K-State turned in an even par 288 in the third round for a final 54-hole score of 10-over par 874. It was the Wildcats’ third top-five finish of the season.

“We moved up to fourth place in the tournament, which is a great way to start the season,” head coach Kristi Knight said. “We had team scores ranging from 70-74 in the third round, which is very solid. I am extremely proud of all of our ladies today.”

Gianna Misenhelter led the way by carding a 2-under par 70 in the final round to earn her seventh under-par round of the season. The sophomore tallied a career best 54-hole score of 2-under par 214, finishing in a tie for seventh and earning her fourth top-10 finish of the 2011-12 season.

Hanna Roos turned in a career best 54-hole score of 1-over par 217 to finish in a tie for 12th, earning her first top-20 finish of the season. Whitney Pyle also notched a career best 54-hole score of 2-over par 219 to finish in a tie for 16th.

Freshman Olivia Eliasson turned in a 10-over par 226 to finish in a tie for 44th. Eliasson, who competed as an individual, recorded a 12-shot improvement off her first career appearance at the Dale McNamara Invitational.

Paige Osterloo and Ami Storey rounded out the Wildcat scoring lineup by carding a 14-over par 230 to finish in a tie for 53rd.

Illinois won the team competition with 11-over par 853, three strokes ahead of Texas Tech.

Illinois’ Nora Lucas finished on top of the individual leaderboard with an 11-under par 205, two strokes ahead of Texas Tech’s Gabriella Dominguez and Kimberly Kaufman.

The Wildcats will be back in action March 5-6 when they travel to Miami, Fla., for the Hurricane Invitational.
