TUCSON, Ariz.—The Kansas State women’s golf team dropped one spot during the final round of the Mountain View Collegiate, finishing sixth at the par 72, 6,227-yard Mountain View Golf Club on Saturday.

K-State still finished in the top half of the 15-team field, marking the sixth time this season the Wildcats have finished in the top half. Kansas State turned in a 10-over par 298 in the third round for a 54-hole score of 19-over par 883.

“It was a good result for us,” said head coach Kristi Knight. “This was a deep field, and we picked up good wins versus teams such as Louisville, San Jose State and Northwestern.”

In her first team event of the season, Carly Ragains led the Wildcats with a career best 54-hole score of 1-over par 217 to finish in 12th as she recorded an 18-shot improvement from her first appearance at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational back in September. The freshman also earned her first top-20 finish of the season.

“Carly did a great job in this tournament,” Knight said. “A 12th-place finish in her first event in the lineup is impressive.”

Ami Storey fell in the third round, turning in a 5-over par 77 to finish in a tie for 18th. The senior carded a 54-hole score of 3-over par 219 and earned her third top-20 finish on the season.

Whitney Pyle notched a 54-hole score of 7-over par 223 to finish in a tie for 32nd after shooting a 3-over 75 in the final round. One stroke behind Pyle was Gianna Misenhelter, who finished in a tie for 37th.

Hanna Roos tallied a 14-over par 230 to finish in a tie for 58th. Competing as an individual, Kristen Dorsey turned in a 19-over par 235.

Texas Tech won the team competition with a 6-under par 858, seven strokes ahead of second place Iowa State.

San Jose State’s Jennifer Brumbaugh won the individual competition after a two-hole shootout against Northwestern’s Lauren Weaver. Brumbaugh and Weaver both carded a 54-hole score of 7-under par 209.

The Wildcats will be back in action, April 6-8, when they travel to Oxford, Miss., to compete in the Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate.
