TUCSON, Ariz. - It was a tale of two rounds for the Kansas State women's golf team as the Wildcats fired a 3-over par 291 in the opening round followed by a 26-over par 311 in the second to sit in a tie for 10th place at the Mountain View Collegiate after the conclusion of day one.

The Wildcats found themselves on top of the leaderboard after seven holes of play and ended up fifth after round one's play at the Mountain View Country Club. The 3-over par 291 is the lowest score a K-State team has posted in a single round since scoring a 1-over par 289 at the 2007 version of the Mountain View Collegiate.

"We showed what this team is capable of in the first round," said coach Kristi Knight. "We just lost our momentum in the second round."

That second round dropped the Wildcats five spots on the leaderboard out of the 18 teams participating at the event. K-State's two-round total of 23-over par 602 is the lowest two-round total since the team posted a 20-over par 599 at the Johnie Imes Invitational during the fall season. The score puts K-State ahead of Big 12 foe's Nebraska, Baylor and Kansas.

Iowa State holds a strong lead after two rounds of play with a score of 7-under par 569. The Cyclones lead Oklahoma and Arkansas which are in a tie for second at 2-over par 578.

Iowa State's Prima Thammaraks and Arkansas' Emily Tubert share the lead among individuals with two-round scores of 4-under par 140.

K-State's Whitney Pyle fired a career-low 3-under par 69 in the first round to place her in a tie for third. Pyle's second round score of 7-over par 79 combined for a career-low 36-hole score of 4-over par 148, to sit in a tie for 31st.

Ami Storey tied her career-low 36-hole score of 4-over par 148 to also be tied for 31st after two rounds. Storey compiled consecutive rounds of 2-over par 74.

Paige Osterloo fell under the same spell as her fellow teammates with a 1-over par 73 in the first round followed by an 8-over par 80 in the second. Osterloo is in a tie for 54th with a two-round total of 9-over par 153.

In a tie for 58th is Gianna Misenhelter, with a 36-hole score of 10-over par 154. Misenhelter tallied a 3-over par 75 in the first 18 followed by a 7-over par 79 in the second round.

Kristen Dorsey put up a season-low 36-hole score of 15-over par 159 to sit in a tie for 79th.

K-State's third and final round of the Mountain View Collegiate will begin with a 7:30 a.m. (CT) shotgun start on Saturday. Live scoring can be followed at www.golfstat.com and results will be posted at www.kstatesports.com as soon as they become available.
