DALLAS, TexasGianna Misenhelter and Carly Ragains turned in strong first-round performances as the K-State women’s golf team currently leads the field of 15 after day one of the Dallas Athletic Club Invitational at the par 72, 6,301-yard Dallas Athletic Golf Club.

The Wildcats notched a team score of 6-over par 294 in the first round, one stroke ahead of second-place Oklahoma and two strokes ahead of third-place Denver.

Ragains fired a 2-under par 70 Friday, marking her third under-par score of the season. The sophomore sits in a tie for second with Oklahoma State’s Julie Yang and Oregon State’s Anica Yoo and one shot behind Oklahoma’s Chirapat Jao-Javanil.

Misenhelter turned in an 18-hole score of even-par 72 to sit in a tie for fifth and looks to move up the leaderboard in the final rounds to earn her first top-five finish of the season.

“The ladies did a nice job today,” said head coach Kristi Knight. “They hit quite a few good shots, but more importantly they responded well after poor shots. They handled those situations well and stayed in the moment. There is a lot of golf left, and the course will not get easier, but I am proud of their effort today.”

Whitney Pyle and Hanna Roos each carded a 4-over par 76 to sit in a tie for 18th, while Olivia Eliasson rounded out the scoring lineup with an 18-hole score of 5-over par 77 to sit in a tie for 26th.
