OXFORD, Miss. – The Kansas State women’s golf team moved up one spot on the leaderboard Saturday to sit in a tie for sixth after the second round of the Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,313 yard Ole Miss Golf Club.

The Wildcats improved their stroke count by nine in the second round, turning in a 9-over par 297. K-State enters Sunday’s final round tied with Maryland at 27-over par 603.

Carly Ragains and Whitney Pyle lead the Wildcats as each sit in a tie for 24th. Ragains carded an even-par 72 on Saturday, marking the second-straight event the freshman has turned in an even par in the second round. Pyle notched a 2-over par 74 in round two and looks earn her fifth top-20 finish of the season.

Ami Storey improved eight strokes in the second round by carding a 3-over par 75 to sit in a tie for 65th.

“I am proud of our improvements today,” said head coach Kristi Knight. “Carly had a solid 72 and Ami came back strong. Whitney also played 17 strong holes today.”

Competing as an individual, Kristen Dorsey notched a career-best 36-hole score of 5-over par 149 after a 2-over par 74 on Saturday. The junior enters Sunday’s final round in search of her first top-20 finish of the season.

“Kristen has played a solid two rounds of golf,” Knight said. “I am very happy for her.”

Gianna Misenhelter fell in the second round, tallying a 7-over par 79 to sit in a tie for 38th.  One stroke behind Misenhelter is Hanna Roos, who sits in a tie for 42nd.

Baylor leads the field at 1-over par 577 thanks to a 3-under par 285 on Saturday, the lowest team score of the day. Four strokes behind the Bears is host-school Mississippi at 5-over par 581.

Baylor’s Jaclyn Jansen leads the individual competition with a 36-hole score of 5-under par 139, one stroke ahead of second place Natalie Gleadall of Mississippi and three strokes ahead of third place Marita Engzelius of Tulsa.
