K-State Jumps Four Spots to Finish Seventh

MESQUITE, Texas -- The Kansas State women's golf team carded the second-lowest team score during the final round of the SMU/DAC Invitational on Saturday, jumping up four spots on the leaderboard to finish in seventh place at the par-72, 6,345-yard Dallas Athletic Club.

The Wildcats, who finished with a 54-hole score of at 47-over par 911, tallied 11 birdies on the day as they were able to jump ahead of three nationally-ranked teams in Iowa State (31st), SMU (43rd) and TCU (49th), which finished ninth, 10thand 11th, respectively. K-State also moved ahead of in-state rival Kansas on the final day as the Jayhawks fell three spots to finish eighth.

"The ladies did great today," head coach Kristi Knight said. "We had four solid scorers on a very challenging course. It was a great way to finish strong after a slow start to this event."

Senior Olivia Eliasson, who fired a 1-under par 71 in the final round, and sophomore Madison Talley finished with a 54-hole score of 11-over par 227 to tie for 29th. Eliasson's under-par effort in the final round allowed her to improve 18 spots on the individual leaderboard.

Sophomore Katherine Gravel-Coursol carded a 16-over par 232 and finished tied for 42nd. Freshman Connie Jaffrey ended the event tied for 52nd at 19-over par 235, while senior Carly Regains carded a 20-over par 236 and tied for 58th.

Entering the day with a seven-shot advantage, Oklahoma State held on to the top team spot with a winning score of 11-over par 875, eight strokes ahead of second-place Purdue.

Purdue's August Kim defeated Kansas' Yupaporn Kawinpakorn on the second playoff hole to win individual honors. Both players finished with a 54-hole score of 1-under par 215.

The Wildcats will be back in action April 18-19, as they travel to Columbus, Ohio, to compete in the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational.
