Wildcats in Top Five Heading into Final Day

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Kansas State women's golf team set itself up for a fifth top-five finish this year as the Wildcats are currently in fourth place following two rounds of the Lady Buckeye Invitational at the par-72, 6,268-yard Scarlett Course on Saturday. Thanks to 16 birdies on the day, K-State shot a 25-over par 601 over the first two rounds.

"It was a mixed bag today," head coach Kristi Knight said. "We could not get four solid scores. Madison (Talley) played very well. Carly (Ragains) and Connie (Jaffrey) were steady. I am proud of the team's effort."

Talley enters final-round play in third place at even-par 144 after carding a pair of 72s in the first two rounds. Talley, who is in search of her second top-five finish of the year, is two shots out of second place and four behind the individual leader, Josee Doyon of Kent State.

Ragains also finished the day in the top-15 after carding a 5-over par 149 to place her in a tie for 14th. Freshman Connie Jaffrey carded a 9-over par 153 and sits in a tie for 28th, while junior Scotland Preston is tied for 52nd at 14-over par 158.

Rounding out the K-State lineup, senior Olivia Eliasson is in 64th at 19-over par 163, and sophomore Katherine Gravel-Coursol is tied for 67th after carding a 20-over par 164.

Kent State leads the team competition with a score of 9-over par 585. The Golden Flashes are three shots ahead of second-place Ohio State and seven shots ahead of third-place Michigan State.

The third round of the Lady Buckeye Invitational will begin at 8 a.m., on Sunday. Live stats can be followed on www.golfstat.com and final results will be posted on www.k-statesports.com following the conclusion of the event.
