Lady Golfers Finish 10th at Big 12

NORMAN, Okla. – K-State’s women’s golf team shot a 322 (+34) Sunday in the final round of the 2010 Big 12 Championship at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club to finish in 10th place.

The Wildcats, who entered the day in a tie for third place, fought through some adversity Sunday and ended the championship with a score of 58-over par 922, besting 11th-place Oklahoma (929) and 12th-place Kansas (938).

Individually, Morgan Moon and Abbi Sunner each cracked the top-20 Sunday in their last regular season appearance as Wildcats. For their careers, the duo has combined for 20 top-20 finishes including eight this season.

Moon finished in a tie for 18th, her second career top-20 finish at the Big 12 Championship, after tallying a 9-over par 81 Sunday. She completed the weekend with a 54-hole score of 11-over par 227.

Fellow senior Sunner, who captured her career-best finish at the Big 12 Championship, tied for 20th on the weekend. Sunner carded a 6-over par 78 in the final round to total a 54-hole score of 229 (+13).

“It was a tough day for the ladies,” said head coach Kristi Knight. “Abbi played well and her back went out on the back nine to where she could barely turn but she fought her way in. We have an opportunity to be better and mentally stronger next season because of this experience. They played 36 solid holes, but the final 18 did not go how we would have liked."

Texas A&M took over the top spot on the leaderboard with a 296 (+8) in the final round and a final tally of 896 (+32). The Aggies edged Oklahoma State by just one stroke to claim the Big 12 Championship.

Caroline Hedwall of Oklahoma State dominated the weekend to claim the individual Big 12 Championship. Hedwall finished with a three-round score of 210 (-6), topping second-place Hannah Burke of Baylor by eight strokes, who tallied a 54-hole score of 218 (+2).

Tying for 30th was Wildcat junior Emily Houtz, who scored a final-round 82 (+10). Houtz turned in a 54-hole score of 16-over par 232.

Competing in her first Big 12 Championship, Hanna Roos finished 48th overall with a three-round total score of 23-over par 239.

Ami Storey carded a 9-over par 81 in the last round of the tournament to tie for 55th and ended the regular season with 54-hole score of 243 (+27).
