K-State in Second Place after First Round of Chip-N-Club

LINCOLN, Neb. Soggy conditions and dark skies did not slow down the Kansas State women’s golf team as three individual are in the top-10 and the Wildcats sit in second place after the first round of the Chip-N-Club Invitational at the par 72, 6,214-yard Wilderness Ridge Golf Course on Monday.

The day was scheduled for two rounds of golf, but due to inclement weather, the golfers were pulled off the course twice by tournament officials and were unable to complete the second round. The 54-hole event will now be reduced to 36 holes and will conclude Tuesday after the completion of the round two.

Before the storms rolled in, K-State was able to climb the leaderboard as it shot an 11-over par 299. The Wildcats are five shots back of first-place UTSA, which posted a 6-over par 294. Big 12 foe Kansas is in third after scoring a 12-over par 300.

Leading all individuals is UTSA’s Taylor Newlin, who fired a 2-under par 70 in her first round. Trailing Newlin is Amy Anderson of North Dakota State at 1-under par 71.

Topping the leaderboard for the Wildcats was Whitney Pyle. The sophomore bogeyed her first hole on the day but recovered to birdie four out of the next nine to eventually post a score of 1-over par 72. Pyle entered the second round tied for seventh.

Paige Osterloo carded a 2-over par 74 in her first round to tie for ninth as she recorded four birdies, a bogey and two double-bogeys during round one.

Competing as an individual, Ami Storey carded an opening round 2-over par 74 to sit in a tie for ninth. The Woodlands Park, UK, product recorded two birdies in the first round.

Making her collegiate debut, Gianna Misenhelter was able to battle to a 3-over par 75, putting her in a tie for 14th. The Overland Park, Kan., native managed to par 13 of the 18 holes throughout her first round.

Hanna Roos sits in a tie for 26th after carding a 5-over par 77, while senior Emily Houtz scored a 12-over par 84 to tie for 79th.

The second and final round of the Chip-N-Club Invitational will conclude Tuesday, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
