K-State in Second at Sunflower Invitational

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State women's golf team sits in second place after Monday's first and second rounds of the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational at the par-72, 6,265-yard Colbert Hills Golf Course. Led by senior Gianna Misenhelter, the Wildcats improved nine strokes from the first round and sit 13 shots back of the lead.

Misenhelter fired a tournament-low 71 in the second round to finish the day tied for first place and helped the Wildcats notch a team score of 39-over par 615. Kansas leads the team competition following a 36-hole score of 26-over par 602, while Jayhawk Yupaporn Kawinpakorn is tied with Misenhelter for the individual lead.

"I am extremely happy with how the team competed and represented Kansas State University," head coach Kristi Knight said. "They hit a lot of great shots. I am really proud."

K-State juniors Oliva Eliasson and Carly Ragains join Misenhelter inside the top-15 heading into Tuesday's final round. Eliasson carded a 9-over par 153 on Monday, while Ragains follows closely at 12-over par 156.

Providing the highlight of the day, Kansas State freshman Anne Willman, competing as an individual, carded her first career hole-in-one at the par-3 11th hole. Willman finished the day in third place among those competing solely as individuals at 21- over par 161.

Making their home debut for K-State were freshmen Madison Talley and Katherine Gravel-Coursol, who both shot a 6-over par 78 in the second round. Making the biggest improvement between rounds one and two for the Wildcats was sophomore Scotland Preston, who improved 12 strokes and enters Tuesday's round at 32-over par 176.

"I think we adjusted well and came back great in the second round," Knight said. "This tournament is not over; we have an opportunity tomorrow to make up some ground."

The third and final round of the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational will begin Tuesday morning at 8:15 a.m. (CT). Live results of the tournament can be viewed at golfstat.com, while a complete recap will be posted at kstatesports.com following the conclusion of the event.
