K-State finishes in second at Sunflower Invitational

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State women's golf team finished second on Tuesday with a three-round team score of 62-over par at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational at the par-72 6,265 yard Colbert Hills Golf Course.

Individually, the Wildcats were paced by juniors Oliva Eliasson, Carly Ragains and senior Gianna Misenhelter, who placed in the top 10. Eliasson, who fired a 14-over par 230 for the tournament, led the Wildcats for a second-straight tournament and finished in the top five for the first time in her collegiate career. Ragains moved up seven positions in the final round to finish tied for sixth with a 15-over par 231. Misenhelter fell from the lead in the final round to finish in a tie for ninth. 

"I am pleased with how the team competed. I saw a lot of good golf shots the last two days," head coach Kristi Knight said.

Winning the individual crown was Meghan Potee from Kansas, who carded an 8-over par 224. The Jayhawks won the team crown as well, finishing with a team score 46-over par 910.

Finishing with her first top-25 placing in a collegiate tournament was freshman Katherine Gravel-Coursol, who improved 12 strokes from her first-round score to finish with a 24-over par 240. Fellow freshman Madison Talley rounded out the scoring lineup for the Wildcats by firing a 30-over par 246.

"Our freshmen adjusted well this morning and came back from a difficult round two. They settled in and hit some great shots," Knight said.

oming off a hole-in-one Monday and completing her first collegiate tournament, freshman Anne Willman, who was competing as an individual, finished tied for 43rd with a 31-over par 247. Also competing as an individual was sophomore Scotland Preston, who matched her score from round two to finish at a tie for 66th.

K-State will be back in action next week as it heads to Austin, Texas, for the Challenge at Onion Creek at the Onion Creek Country Club on Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
