K-State in Second after Day One at Colbert Hills

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Backed by Gianna Misenhelter's career best 36-hole score of 1-under par 143, the Kansas State women's golf team sits in second place on Monday after the first and second rounds of the Marilyn Smith/Sunflower Invitational at par 72, 6,181-yard Colbert Hills Golf Course.

The Wildcats carded a 12-over par in the first round and an 11-over par in the second round of play for a total of 23-over par 599. K-State will enter Tuesday's final round nine stroke back of Arkansas-Little Rock, which is at 14-over par 590.

"Overall, I am very proud of the team's effort," said head coach Kristi Knight. "We were struggling on the greens, but they really hung in there and did the best they could."

Misenhelter is one of six Wildcats to enter the final 18 holes in the top 20. The Overland Park, Kan., native carded seven birdies on the day and currently sits in second place behind UALR's Malin Lundberg, who notched a 4-under par 140.

Paige Osterloo was also solid in the first two rounds to crack the top-5 as she sits in a tie for fourth with a 4-over par 148.

Whitney Pyle put together a solid performance with a 7-over par score 151 as she stands in a tie for 11th.

Ami Storey and Kristen Dorsey both of competed individually, and both currently sit in the top-20. Storey finished the first two rounds with an 8-over par 152 to sit in a tie for 13th. Dorsey is right behind her in a tie for 16th at 9-over par 153.

In her first performance as a Wildcat, Carly Ragains was solid with a 10-over par 154. She enters the final round tied for 18th.

Laura Hildebrandt and Olivia Eliasson bettered their second -round scores from the morning round. Hildebrandt improved her first-round stroke count by five, while Eliasson improved her first-round count by 13. Hildebrandt ended the day 13-over par 153 to tie for 34th, while Eliasson is tied for 44th with a 15-over par 159.

UALR is currently on top of the leaderboard with a 36-hole score of 14-over par 590, but the Wildcats are not far behind and are looking to make a move.

"We have an opportunity ahead of us tomorrow, and tomorrow I will expect more confidence," said Knight. "We give credit to UALR, though, because they are a solid team and deserve to be on top."

K-State will tee off the third and final round of the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday morning. The event is free to the public, and scores will be posted at www.kstatesports.com at the conclusion of play.
