Lady Golfers in Third at Sunflower Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Kansas State women's golf team has four individuals in the top-15 and sit in third place among team competition after two rounds of the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational at Alvamar Golf Course on Monday. 

K-State shot an 18-over par 306 in the first round, followed by a 16-over par 304 in the second to gather a two-round score of 34-over par 610. The Wildcats trail second-place Nebraska, who recorded a two-round total of 604 (+28), and are just seven shots back of Kansas, which leads all teams through two rounds with a score of 603 (+27). 

"We are in good position going into the final round," said head coach Kristi Knight. "Overall, it was a struggle, but the ladies hung in there all day." 

Leading the Wildcats on day one was Ami Storey, who sits in a tie for fourth at 4-over par 148. Storey carded a 1-over par 73 in the opening round, jumping into third place. The junior's second round score of 3-over par 75 slipped her to a tie for fourth after two rounds. 

Storey trails individual leader Maddie Sheils of Nebraska by six strokes. Sheils had a two-round score of 2-under par 142. 

Whitney Pyle and Gianna Misenhelter are tied for 14th after tallying 36-hole scores of 9-over par 153. Pyle notched a 77 (+5) in the first round backed with a 76 (+4) in the second. Misenhelter scored a 76 in the opening round then carded a 77 in round two. 

Hanna Roos, who is competing as an individual, scored a 6-over par 78 in the first round, but she improved with a 4-over par 76 in the second round to lift her in a tie for 17th. 

After an opening round 80 (+8), Emily Houtz found herself in a tie for 32nd, but a second round score of 4-over par 76 moved her 10 spots to a tie for 22nd through 36 holes. 

Paige Osterloo recorded a two-round score of 15-over par 159 and sits in a tie for 35th. 

Kristen Dorsey, who is also competing as an individual, recorded a 36-hole score of 24-over par 168 to put her in a tie for 57th.

The third and final round of the Marylinn Smith/Sunflower Invitational will begin with an 8:30 shotgun start Tuesday morning. Complete results will posted on www.kstatesports.com as soon as they are made available.
