K-State Within Striking Distance in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The 36th-ranked Kansas State women's golf team sits in second place - just three shots back of host school Missouri - after play on Monday at the Johine Imes Invitational at the par-72, 6,234-yard Club at Old Hawthorne.

The Wildcats carded an 8-under par 280 in the first round and a 3-under par 285 in round two. Both were better than the previous 18-hole team school record of 286 during the third round of the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate on November 5, 2002. K-State finished the day at 11-under par 565.

"This was a total team effort," K-State head coach Kristi Knight said. "The ladies hit the ball pretty well today. They stayed patient and played with confidence."

Freshman Connie Jaffrey's first-round score and senior Carly Ragains' second-round score of 5-under par 67 tied for the second-lowest individual 18-hole scores in school history. They were the lowest by a Wildcat since Michelle Regan also carded a 67 at the Susie Maxwell Classic on April 9, 2006.

Ragains and Jaffrey both sit in the top five going in to Tuesday. Ragains carded a 5-under par 139, and, after an improvement in the second round, finished the day sitting tied for second place. Jaffrey followed closely behind with a 4-under par 140 and is tied for fourth.

Senior Olivia Eliasson and sophomore Madison Talley are also in the top-15 going into round three. Eliasson carded a 1-under par 143 and is tied for 11th, while Talley finished the day with an even-par 144 and is tied for 13th. Sophomore Katherine Gravel-Coursol is tied for 34th at 6-over par 145 and, playing as an individual, junior Scotland Preston finished the day tied at 44th and carded a 7-over par 152.

Missouri, which tallied a team score of 14-under par 562 on Monday, is paced by Alina Rogers, who sits on top of the individual leaderboard at 7-under par.

The third round of the Johine Imes Invitational will begin at 8:00 a.m. (CST) on Tuesday. Live stats can be followed on www.birdiefire.com and final results will be posted on www.kstatesports.com following the conclusion of the event.
