Jaffrey Claims Johnie Imes Invitational Title

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Kansas State freshman women's golfer Connie Jaffrey was solid down the stretch run Tuesday to capture her first collegiate title with a score of 8-under par 208 at the Johnie Imes Invitational at The Club at Old Hawthorne. As a team, the Wildcats finished second with a school-record low score of 14-under par 850.

Jaffrey's first-place finish is the 11th individual victory in school history and the first since Michelle Regan at the 2007 Bronco Fall Invitational.

"Connie did a great job this event," K-State head coach Kristi Knight said. "She had one rough hole but bounced back to finish with three pars."

Jaffrey held a one-stroke lead until a double bogey on No. 15 put her one shot back. She parred out and saw Missouri's Alina Rogers bogey two of her final three holes to pick up the tournament title. The freshman carded the second lowest 54-hole score in team history, finishing four strokes shy of tying the school record.

K-State senior Carly Ragains tied Rogers for second with a career-low score of 6-under par 210.

The Wildcats finished the event just four shots back of host school Missouri, which carded an 18-under 846. K-State shattered the previous school tournament record of 874 at the Edwin Watts Collegiate, Nov. 4-5, 2002.

Sophomore Madison Talley and senior Olivia Eliasson both finished in the top 20. Talley recorded her second top-10 finish of the season at a 2-under par 214 to tie for eighth. Eliasson finished with a 3-over par 219 to tie for 19th.

Rounding out the scoring lineup, sophomore Katherine Gravel-Coursol finished with an 11-over par 227 to tie for 44th place. Playing as an individual, junior Scotland Preston tied for 60th place by carding a 17-over par 233

"I am very proud of this team," Knight said. "They played great. Missouri was just a little better this week."

K-State will be back in action next week as it travels to Littleton, Colorado, for the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate at the Highland Ranch Golf Course on Oct. 10-12.
