Pyle Leads K-State to Top-Three Finish

Whitney Pyle receives her second-place trophy at the Johnie Imes Invitational

Oct. 2, 2012

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Kansas State senior women's golfer Whitney Pyle captured a career best second-place finish and the third-lowest 54-hole in school history to lead the Wildcats during the Johnie Imes Invitational at the par 72, 6,234-yard Club at Old Hawthorne.

K-State, which finished in third place, turned in a three-round score of 24-over par 888, the best team score of the fall slate by 40 strokes. The Wildcats were three shots behind host school Missouri and 12 shots behind first-place SMU.

Pyle played the final round at 5-over par 77 to earn a career-best 54-hole score of 2-under par 214. It was the Wildcats' lowest 54-hole score since 2003 when Christine Boucher shot a 213 at the Price's Give `Em Five.

The senior, who finished six strokes behind SMU's Melanie White on Tuesday, tallied the highest placing by a Wildcat since Gianna Misenhelter's second-place finish at the 2011 Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational.

In addition to Pyle, Olivia Eliasson turned in a final-round score of 1-under par 71, marking the first under-par round for the sophomore. Eliasson finished in a tie for 18th with a 54-hole score of 7-over par 223 to earn her second top-20 finish of the fall slate.

"I am proud of Whitney," said head coach Kristi Knight. "Olivia also had a great round. We were not quite as solid on the team-score front. We did not hole as many putts today and had a few costly missed shots, but overall this is a great result for our team. I am proud of their effort."

Misenhelter notched a 54-hole score of 8-over par 224 to finish in 20th, earning the third consecutive top-20 finish to open her junior season.

Hanna Roos carded a 13-over par 232, moving up three spots on the leaderboard to tie for 50th. Freshman Scotland Preston, who competed as an individual, turned in a 34-over par 250 to tie for 89th.

The Wildcats will be back in action Monday-Wednesday, October, 15-17, when they travel to Norman, Okla., to compete in the Susie Maxwell Classic.
