Wildcats Start Strong at Ron Moore Intercollegiate

DENVER, Colo. - The Kansas State women's golf team sits in second place - just two shots back of in-state rival Kansas - after the first round of the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate on Friday at the par-72, 6,457-yard Highlands Ranch Golf Course. The Wildcats carded a 3-over par 291 over the first 18 holes as all five members of the scoring lineup currently reside in the top 12.

"The team did well today," K-State head coach Kristi Knight said. "The hole locations were very demanding, but all in all, I think they did a great job of staying below the hole. There is still a lot of golf left to play."

Freshman Connie Jaffrey led the way by carding a 2-under par 70 and sits tied for first at the end of round one. Joining Jaffrey in the top 10 is sophomore Katherine Gravel-Coursol, who is tied for seventh with a 1-over par 73. Sophomore Madison Talley as well as seniors Olivia Eliasson and Carly Ragains each finished the day at 2-over par 74 and are tied for 12th. Playing as an individual, junior Scotland Preston completed play on Friday in a tie for 17th by shooting a 3-over par 75.

Kansas, which tallied a team score of 1-over par 289 on Friday, is paced by Pornvipa Sakdee, who is tied with Jaffrey atop the individual leaderboard at 2-under par. The duo leads three players that are tied for third place at 1-under par 71.

The second round of the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate will start at 8:30 a.m. (MT) on Saturday. Live stats can be followed on www.birdiefire.com and final results will be posted on www.kstatesports.com following the conclusion of play.
