Wildcats in Fifth After Round One

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Kansas State women's golf team sits in fifth place after the first round of the Palmetto Intercollegiate on Sunday at the par-72, 5,972-yard Turtle Point Golf Course. The Wildcats carded a 10-over par 298 over the first 18 holes.

"The team fought hard for everything today," K-State head coach Kristi Knight said. "There is a lot of golf left to be played. Also Madison (Talley) played very well today."

Talley led the way by carding a 1-under par 71 and sits in a tie for seventh at the end of round one. Freshman Connie Jaffrey and sophomore Katherine Gravel-Coursol are tied for 34th after carding a 3-over par 75. Senior Carly Ragains finished the day at 5-over par 77 and a tie for 48th, while senior Olivia Eliasson completed play on Sunday in a tie for 56th at 6-over par 78.

Coastal Carolina, which tallied a the lowest score of the day at 6-under par 282, is paced by Lena Schaeffner, who is tied with GRU Augusta's Eunice Yi atop the individual leaderboard at 4-under par.

The second round of the Palmetto Intercollegiate will start at 9 a.m. (ET) on Monday. Live stats can be followed on www.golfstat.com and final results will be posted on www.kstatesports.com following the conclusion of play.
