Kansas State Women in the Lead After First Day at Edwin Watts Collegiate

Kiawah Island, S.C. - In its final tournament of the fall season, the K-State women's golf team is in first place after 27 holes at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate. The Wildcats fired a combined score of 440 (297-143) to give them a seven-stroke lead over second place Tulane (305-142--447).

Junior Christine Boucher is second among individuals by shooting a solid 105. She shot a 67 in the first round and carded a 35 after nine holes in the second round. Boucher is one stroke back from individual leader Rachel Lester of Kentucky (104). Boucher's 18-hole score of 67 marks an all-time school lowest. Jane Yi held the previous record of 68 set at the Chip-N Club Invitational in 1997.

Senior Miranda Smith joins Boucher among the top-five individuals. She finished the day in fourth place, carding a 108 (75-33).

Junior Karen Quintelier is in a four-way tie for 17th place, carding a 113 (76-37). Sophomore Sarah Heffel is just one stroke back from Quintelier. Heffel is tied for 21st place (79-35--114). Elise Carpentier is tied for 70th place with a combined scored of 127.

The second and final day of the Edwin Watts/ Palmetto Collegiate is Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
