Wildcats Card 22 birdies on Day One

PEORIA, Ariz. - Junior Olivia Eliasson shot under par through 36 holes to lead the Kansas State women's golf team to an 8-over par 584 Sunday during the first and second rounds of the Westbrook Invitational at the par-72, 6,269-yard Westbrook Village Golf Club.

The Wildcats, who sit in eighth place, fired a 2-over par 290 in round two, four strokes better than Sunday morning's first round. The Wildcats tallied 22 birdies on the day and head into Monday's final round five strokes shy of fifth-place Indiana and 31 strokes behind first-place Oregon, who set the Westbrook Invitational 36-hole record by 17 strokes with a 23-under par 553.

"The girls did extremely well today," head coach Kristi Knight said. "They understand the speed of the greens, and I am looking forward to watching more putts drop tomorrow."

Eliasson carded nine birdies Sunday and was strong throughout the day, notching a second-round score of 1-under par 71, one shot better than her stroke count from the first round. The Sweden native is seeking her second top-10 finish of the year as she sits just one stroke out of 10th place.

Sophomore Scotland Preston was very consistent on day one, tallying 30 pars and two birdies en route to identical scores of 1-over par 73 to sit in a tie for 31st. One stroke behind her was senior Gianna Misenhelter, who carded five birdies over the two rounds in a 3-over par 147 performance. Misenhelter will enter the final round in a tie for 36th.

Junior Carly Ragains improved one stroke on round two and moved up five positions to sit at a tie for 45th with a 5-over par 149. Finishing the day one stroke behind her was freshman Katherine Gravel-Coursol, who improved four strokes from her first round to sit in a tie for 56th at 6-over par 150. Gravel-Coursol birdied three holes in a four-hole stretch during round two, including the longest hole on the course, the 529-yard 17th hole.

Freshman Madison Talley finished the day in second place among those competing solely as individuals and tied for 45th overall at 5-over par 149.

Jessica Porvasnik of Ohio State, who recorded a hole-in-one, leads all competitors with a 12-under par 132. She leads Oregon's Cathleen Santoso by only one stroke after Santoso fired a 9-under par 63 during the second round.
