Wildcats Fight Bad Weather in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. The Kansas State women’s golf team played through less than ideal weather for the second time this spring.  The Wildcats finished the day with a 314 (+26), tied for 11th.  Due to inclement weather and lack of daylight the second round was cancelled.

UC Irvine leads all teams with a round of 297 (+9). UC Irvine teammates Jane Chin and Selanee Henderson finished tied for the lead, they both carded scores of 72 (E).

“We were close today,” said head coach Kristi Knight. “Michelle (Regan) played a lot of good golf today but she had two bad strokes today on consecutive holes on the back nine. She was frustrated with her finish, but she played a lot of good golf. She was five-over on two holes, so hopefully tomorrow she can eliminate those mistakes.”

“Abby (Sunner) played a really good front nine,” commented coach Knight. “She just felt like she made a couple of mental mistakes on the back nine.”

“Hailey (Mireles) just could never get it going,” said coach Knight. “In the practice round she really putted the ball well, but today she struggled some. She felt like maybe she just wasn’t finishing her stroke.”

Kansas State freshman Abbi Sunner had another strong outing with a first day 77 (+5) to finish tied for 26th.

Kansas State junior Michelle Regan carded a first day round of 78 (+6) to finish tied for 29th with teammate Hailey Mireles.

Other Wildcats among the tournament field, senior Katy Heffel shot an opening day round of 81 (+9) to finish tied for 61st. Junior Kali Quick carded an 82 (+10) to finish tied for 73rd.

The Wildcats will play one more round tomorrow, teeing off at 8 a.m. Results will be posted as soon as they become available. Live stats can be accessed on www.golfstat.com.
