Wildcats Set to Battle Solid Field at Mo?Morial

PICKING UP WHERE THEY LEFT OFF:  The Kansas State Women’s golf team will look to carry over the momentum that they gained in the final round of the Fresno State Invitational. The team posted it’s second top-five finish of the season when they carded a final round 295, their second best of the season, to climb the leaderboard and finish in fifth place. The Wildcats had every member of the team shoot a final round of 77 or better for the first time this season.


TOP 20 PRESENCE:  Kansas State has placed at least one Wildcat in the top 20 in their last 11 tournaments, and 16 of their last 17. The Wildcats placed a player in the top 20 every invitational this season and hope to continue that streak throughout the spring portion of their schedule. The last tournament that the Wildcats did not have a player finish in the top twenty was at the Texas A&M Momorial in March of 2006.


THE FIELD:  The Wildcats will face the toughest field they have faced this season when they head to the Texas A&M Mo’Morial. The 15 team field is all in this weeks Golfweek/Sagarin top-100, and nine in the top-50. The Wildcats will face five other Big 12 schools, including three that they have not faced yet this season. The field includes Arizona St. (1), USC (6), Oklahoma St. (7), UCLA (15), Texas A&M (18), Denver (22), South Carolina (25), Princeton (35), Missouri (49), Oklahoma (61), Kansas State (79), Iowa State (84), UTEP (87), Tulsa (91) and Texas (98).


THE FORMAT:  The teams will shoot 18 holes on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Pairings for Sunday’s round will be determined by their scores. The low four individual scores will determine the team score for each round.

LAST TIME OUT: The Wildcats finished 5th out of 18 teams at a shortened Fresno State Invitational. Freshman Abbi Sunner finished the tournament tied for 19th after shooting 77-75152 (+8) to claim her 3rd collegiate top-20 finish. Junior Michelle Regan also finished tied for 19th with scores of 78-74152 (+8) notching her 5th top-20 finish of the season. Senior Katy Heffel carded an 81-72153 (+9) to finish tied for 21st. Junior Hailey Mireles tied for 32nd after shooting 78-77155 (+11). Junior Kali Quick rounded out the Wildcats with an 82-74156 (+12) to tie for 41st.
