K-State Sits in 10th Place After Day Two

Rio Verde, Ariz. The Kansas State women’s golf team was able to shave four strokes off its day one score and currently sits in 10th place at the Duramed Collegiate Invitational at Quail Run Golf Course. The Wildcats are carding a 311-307618 (+50) through two rounds, and have two player in the top 20.


“Ami and Abbi have been very solid for us this tournament. Morgan Elise and Emily have struggled, but they are hanging in there and we are playing some good holes.”


Kansas was able to hold its lead at first place after day two, currently sitting at 21-over par 589 for the tournament and holds a 20-stroke advantage to second place Toledo. Minnesota and Arkansas-Little Rock are tied at 3rd place at 42-over par.


Meghan Gockel of Kansas jumped from a tie at 3rd place to the top spot in day two, carding a 73-72145 (+3) for the tournament. Three players are currently battling it out for second place. Boram Lee of Toledo, who climbed from 17th to a tie in second place in day two, is currently two strokes off the leader at 5-over par. Carlie Werwie of Wisconsin and Sarah Wikstrom of Arkansas-Little Rock are also in second place.


Junior Abbi Sunner currently holds K-States top spot, sitting in a tie for 12th place and shooting an 8-over par score of 75-75150. Freshman Ami Storey sits right on the heels of Sunner, carding a 9-over 77-74151 and sitting in a tie for 15th.


Other K-State players include Emily Houtz at 16-over par, Morgan Moon at 17-over and Elise Houtz at 18-over.


“It’s the first tournament of the spring. I have seen a lot of good shots and good things happening. We just need to be a little bit more consistent and eliminate the mistakes. I think we can go out and do that tomorrow.”
