Sunner tied for 11th After First Round

Florence, Ariz. – Kansas State’s Abbi Sunner shot a 2-over par 74 on Monday in the first round of the Northern Migration Invitational to tie for 11th place after the first round of play.

Sunner’s play helped the Wildcats to a ninth-place finish out of 19 teams following the first round.

K-State shot a 306 (+18) in the first round at Poston Butte Golf Course. The Cats hold a two-stroke advantage over 10th place Boise State.

“We hung in there on some of the tough holes that this course has to offer,” said coach Kristi Knight. “The back-nine offers some birdie opportunities and we have to take better advantage of that tomorrow. The ladies played hard and I am proud of their effort.”

The University of Texas-San Antonio sits alone in first-place after carding at 10-over par 298. The Roadrunners bested Idaho and Kansas by one-stroke.

Idaho’s Kayla Mortellaro tops the leaderboard after recording a first-round score of 4-under par 68. Victoria Stefansen of Iowa State tallied a 2-under par 70 to sit in second-place.

Sunner’s 18-hole score of 74 was just one stroke shy of her season-low 73 and also tied her low of last week’s competition at the Eagle Landing Invitational. The senior is eyeing her second top-20 finish in consecutive weeks.

Hanna Roos and Elise Houtz each shot 5-over par 77’s. The two sit in a tie for 38th.

Both Emily Houtz and Ami Storey carded a 78 (+6) to put them in a tie for 46th. Houtz is competing as an individual.

Senior Morgan Moon turned in a 12-over par 84 in the first round to place her in tie for 94th.

K-State’s second round of the Northern Migration Invitational will start at 10:54 a.m. (CT) on hole No. 1.
