Wildcats Head To Tucson for Mountain View

HEFFEL LOOKS TO FINISH STRONG AT HOME:  Kansas State senior Katy Heffel will be playing her final collegiate tournament in her home state of Arizona when the Wildcats head to Tucson for the Mountain View Collegiate. Heffel has historically done well at the tourney less than two hours from her hometown of Mesa, Ariz. In her two previous trips to the Mountain View Collegiate, Heffel has averaged rounds of 75.5, nearly five strokes better than her overall career average of 80.1. Heffel shot a career best round of 71 at the Mountain View in March of 2005 to go along with a career best 54-hole score of 220 in the same tournament.

ALL OVER THE RECORD BOOKS:  The Kansas State women’s golf team has placed it’s stamp all over the Mountain View Collegiate record books. The Wildcats, as a team, won this tournament in 2002 and have claimed the individual title twice in the tournament’s eight-year history. Christine Boucher claimed the individual title in 2003, and Elise Carpentier claimed it for the Wildcats in 2001. Current Wildcat Michelle Regan holds the record for lowest individual round with the 68 that she carded in the third round of the 2006 Mountain View Collegiate. The Wildcats have recorded three of the top-six team rounds ever with a 290 in the 2003, 2005, and 2006 tournaments. The Wildcats have the third-best two-round team total with a 597 in 2002, and the Wildcats also have the 10th best three round total with their 890 in 2006.

 

THE FIELD:  The Wildcats will face another solid field at the Mountain View Collegiate with five top-50 teams in this weeks Golfweek/Sagarin ranking, and 15 of the 17 teams in the top 100. The field includes Denver (20), Northwestern (29), Michigan (43), Baylor (45), College of Charleston (50), Missouri (51), Nebraska (54), Indiana (56), Colorado (57), Oklahoma (59), Kansas State (78), Texas Tech (83), Iowa State (84), Wisconsin (87), Kansas (92), Northern Arizona (133), and Arizona (B).

 

THE FORMAT:  The teams will shoot 36 holes on Saturday, and 18 holes on Sunday. Pairings for Sunday’s round will be determined by their scores. The low four individual scores will determine the team score for each round.

 

LAST TIME OUT: The Wildcats finished 12th out of 16 teams at the Texas A&M Mo’Morial. Junior Michelle Regan finished the tournament in 22nd after shooting 79-77-76232 (+16). Senior Helene Robert finished tied for 49th with scores of 82-82-78242 (+26). Junior Hailey Mireles carded an 81-82-81244 (+28) to finish 54th. Freshman Abbi Sunner tied for 61st after shooting 84-81-83248 (+32). Senior Katy Heffel rounded out the Wildcats with an 84-84-83251 (+35) to tie for 71st.
