Wildcats Head Back to Arizona

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State women's golf team will travel to Tucson, Arizona, to compete in the 12th Annual MountainView Collegiate Invitational at MountainView Golf Club. The event makes the second straight tournament for K-State in Arizona. The first day will consist of 36-holes beginning Friday, March 26, with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. (CT). The third and final round will begin with shotgun start on March 27, at 9:30 a.m. (CT).

THE FIELD: Five Big 12 foes will make the trip to Arizona. The field consists of 96 players, 18 teams and six individuals. The entire 18-team field includes: Baylor, Boise State, BYU, Colorado, Colorado State, Gonzaga, Indiana, Iowa State, Kansas State, Michigan, Missouri, Northern Arizona, Sacramento State, San Jose State, Texas Tech, UNLV, Washington State and Wisconsin.

MOUNTAINVIEW COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL PREVIEW: K-State will be making their 12th trip to the invitational all-time. The Wildcats won the event in 2002, shooting a two-round score of 597. Head coach Kristi Knight has also mentored two individual winners of the event, Elise Carpenter in 2001 and Christine Boucher in 2003.

Knight will send the same lineup that she has sent to the previous two competitions to MountainView. The lineup has captured a ninth-place and a eighth-place finish the past two events, averaging 920.5 strokes per competition.

Leading the way will be Abbi Sunner, who has continued to improve throughout the season. So far this spring, the Sunner holds a stroke average of 75 (+3) through six rounds. Sunner also has finished in a tie for seventh and a tie for 17th. The senior made her mark on MountainView last year, shooting a low 18-hole score of 67 (-5) which is an invitational record.

2009 MOUNTAINVIEW COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL:  K-State played possibly its best round of golf of the Spring 2009 season in the final round of the MountainView Collegiate, as they moved from 16th to finish in a tie for 14th. The Wildcats shot a 295 on the final day, which marked the first sub-300 round of the year and carded a 300-314-295-909 (+45) for the tournament.

MOUNTAINVIEW GOLF CLUB: The competition will take place at MountainView Golf Club at Saddlebrook community. The par 72, 6,126-yard links course sets against the Santa Catalina Mountains.

LAST TIME OUT: Sunner captured her best performance of the season at the Northern Migration Invitational. The senior finished in tie for seventh helped and K-State tally a three-round score of 921 (+57) for the event at Poston Butte Golf Course. The Wildcats topped Big 12 foes Texas Tech and Kansas.
