Wildcats Strong in Round Two

 

TUCSON, Ariz. - Kansas State's women's golf team shot the fourth-best score of 18 teams in the second-round of the MountainView Collegiate Invitational, Friday, to sit in a tie for ninth.

K-State tallied a 13-over par 301 in the second round improving ten strokes from the first round. The team has compiled a two-round score of 612 (+36).

"The course is set up longer than previous years and there has been some gusting winds so the course is playing a little tougher than usual," said coach Kristi Knight.

Texas Tech leads all team scores after taking the top spot from Brigham Young in round two. The Raiders have carded a two-round score of 19-over par 595. After shooting a 291 in the first round, the Cougars of BYU tallied a 305 in the second round to record a 596 (+20) through two rounds and slip to second-place.

The top of the individual leaderboard is crowded with a four-way tie for first. Missouri's Julia Potter, Indiana's Kellye Belcher, BYU's Kelsey Vines and UNLV's Kristen Schilling all turned in two-round totals of 2-over par 146.

K-State battled a tough wind in the first round and posted a score of 311 (+23), putting them in 16th place. The Wildcats were able to find success in par-3 scoring as they ranked second overall at 3-over par after round one.

Abbi Sunner continues to lead the Wildcats this week after scoring a 76 (+4) in the first round and a 74 (+2) in the second. The 36-hole score of 150 (+6) has her in a tie for 19th. Sunner will go into round three eyeing her third top-20 finish this spring. The senior ranks first among the field in par-5 scoring tallying 2-under par on par-5 holes.

Hanna Roos carded a two-round score of 151 (+7), to put her in a tie for 23rd. The freshman is one of only two players to record an eagle through 36-holes.

Elise Houtz sits in a tie for 46th after scoring a two-round 10-over par 154. The junior shot a first round 9-over par 81 and improved eight strokes in the second round to record a 1-over par 73.

Ami Storey scored a 13-over par 157 through 36-holes to sit in a tie for 66th.

Senior Morgan Moon carded a 164 (+20) in two rounds to put her in a tie for 88th.

K-State's third and final round will begin at 9:30 a.m. (CT), Saturday, March 27th.
