TUCSON, Ariz. - Thanks to three players currently sitting in the top 14, the Kansas State women's golf team is in fourth place after carding a 13-over par 589 Friday during the first and second rounds of the Mountain View Collegiate at the par-72, 6,227-yard Mountain View Golf Course.

The Wildcats, who shot an 8-over par 296 in the first round to sit in sixth place, improved their stroke count by three during the second round to move up two spots on the leaderboard. K-State enters final-round play three shots back of third-place team Gonzaga and five shots behind second-place squad Kent State.

"The thing that I am most pleased with is the way they handled adversity today and stayed in the mix for the lead," head coach Kristi Knight said. "They kept their emotions in check and I like where we are at heading into the final round."

Three Wildcats - juniors Olivia Eliasson and Carly Ragains, and senior Gianna Misenhelter - are within one stroke of entering Saturday's final round. Eliasson paced Kansas State with a two-round score of 1-over par 145, her best 36-hole score of the season and the second best by a Wildcat this year. The Bjarred, Sweden, product enters Saturday's final round in a tie for fifth place.

Ragains is currently tied for 10th place at 2-over par 146 as she also bettered her top 36-hole score of the year, while Misenhelter is in a tie for 14th at 3-over par 147.

"We made a lot of good up and downs today--including some nice par saves," Knight said.

Freshman Katherine Gravel-Coursol carded a 7-over par 151 on Friday to enter Saturday's final round tied for 38th, while Scotland Preston finished out the Wildcat scoring lineup at 18-over par 162. One shot ahead of Preston was Anne Willman, who is competing as an individual.
