?Cats Head South for Susie Maxwell Classic

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State women’s golf team will look to build off of its final round of the Mountain View Collegiate as they now head to Norman Okla., to play in the Susie Maxwell Classic. The Wildcats will look for more consistency as they begin play with a shotgun start at Jimmie Austin Golf Course on Sundnay at 8 a.m. The first 36 holes will be played Sunday, with the final 18 beginning with a shotgun start on Monday at 8 a.m.


TOPPING THE FIELD: Going back to the Challenge at Wolfdancer, K-State’s final tournament of the fall, junior Abbi Sunner has finished in the top 20 in four consecutive events. Sunner finished in a tie for 15th in her last outing, while setting a tournament record by shooting the lowest 18 (67) in the tournament's 11-year history.


THE FIELD:  K-State will be one of four Big 12 schools in a field that includes:  Arkansas Little Rock, Baylor, Bucknell, Creighton, Kansas, K-State, North Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, Oral Roberts, Redlands Community College, SMU, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, UTEP and Wichita State.


THE HOST Jimmie Austin Golf Course:  The Oklahoma women’s golf program will host the Susie Maxwell Classic at Jimmie Austin Golf Course. The course is a par 72 that measures 6,013 yards.


LAST TIME OUTK-State carded a 300-314-295909 (+45) in the Mountain View Collegiate and finished tied for 14th, but it was what they did in the final round that offered reason for excitement. The Wildcats shot their first sub-300 round of the year in the final round. The team score of 295 was the lowest round since the Susie Maxwell Berning of 2007 where K-State shot a 291 in the second round.


TOURNAMENT HISTORY:  K-State will make its 21st appearance in the Susie Maxwell Classic. The Wildcats’ last appearance was in the spring of 2007 where they carded a 295-291-306892 and finished in a tie for 8th out of 18. The tournament is named after women’s golf great Susie Maxwell Berning, who is one of only three women to have three U.S. Open victories.
