Quick Fires Career Best Round in Florida

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. Senior Kali Quick shot a career-best 70 in the final round, but the Kansas State women’s golf team dropped three spots to finish 10th in the Canes & Cardinal Classic. Rain on Monday forced the women to finish up the second round Tuesday morning before playing the final round, and the Wildcats posted a 301 and 302 at the Don Shula Golf Resort to end the tournament at 38-over par 902.

“The girls competed really hard,” head coach Kristi Knight said. “We were better this week than the last. It’s there, and we just need to come together soon.”

Louisville retained its day-one lead and won the tournament at 7-over par 871. The Cardinals’ Cindy LaCrosse took home individual honors as well after a 4-under 212 for the two days, including an opening-round 67.

Quick’s 2-under par final round helped move her into a tie for 25th at 9-over 225 for three rounds. The 70 was her best effort as a Wildcat by two strokes, as she has carded a 72 in five previous tournaments during her career.

Hailey Mireles also finished at 225 and in a tie for 25th. Abbi Sunner was just one stroke back at 10-over par 226 and in a tie for 30th.

The Wildcats will now get a couple of weeks off before heading to Stillwater, Okla., for the Big 12 Championship on April 25-27. The tournament will be played on the Karsten Creek Golf Course.

“It’s an excellent golf course,” Knight said. “It’s a very challenging course. We typically drive the ball well, but we’ll have to be better around the greens to score well. It’s definitely within our team’s reach.”
