Women's Team in Fifth at Baylor Invite

WACO, Texas – The Kansas State women’s golf team is in a tie for fifth with Oregon after two rounds of the Baylor Spring Invitational at the Twin Rivers Golf Club Monday.

K-State has recorded a two-round score of 624 (+48) and trails fourth-place and Big 12 foe Texas Tech by eight strokes. The Wildcats shot a 22-over par 310 in the first round and a 26-over par 314 in the second. The 6,367-yard course is playing relatively tough for all 16 teams, with only one score through two rounds under 301 (+13).

“The course is playing tough today,” said coach Kristi Knight. “The wind kept picking up as the day went on making the course firmer. Abbi (Sunner), Emily (Houtz) and Hanna (Roos) all played tough in round one.”

Baylor leads the team competition after shooting a 28-over par 604 through two rounds. Baylor leads Oklahoma by six stokes, with the Sooners scoring a 610 (+34).

Baylor’s Jaclyn Jansen sits on top of the individual leaderboard after firing a 1-over par 145 through 36-holes. Jansen leads Mallory Fraiche of Arkansas-Little Rock, who has tallied a 2-over par 146.

Emily Houtz recorded a 79 (+7) in the second round to bring her into a tie for 14th. Houtz will enter the final round looking for her best finish of the season. Houtz scored a 4-over par 76 in the opening round and reached the top-10, tying for ninth.

Along with Houtz in a tie for 14th, is Hanna Roos. Roos has carded a 36-hole score of 11-over par 155. The freshman scored a 5-over par 77 in the second round despite penciling in a double-bogey on the 18th-hole.

Abbi Sunner tallied a 13-over par 85 in round two and sits in a tie for 24th. Sunner recorded an 18-hole season-low score of even-par, 72, in the first round. Sunner’s first round started on the back nine where she carded a 3-over par 39 at the turn. The senior found her game and recorded four birdies and one bogey to even out her scorecard for the first round.

Joining Sunner in 24th-place is fellow senior Morgan Moon, who has notched a 36-hole score of 157 (+13). Moon’s second round score of 73 (+1) was the lowest recorded of the round.

Elise Houtz has carded a two-round score of 171 (+27) and sits alone in 78th.

Paige Osterloo is competing as an individual and has recorded 36-hole score of 176 (+32), to put her in a tie for 84th.
